Single-Session (One+) Therapy

What is Single-Session Therapy?
Single-Session (One+) Therapy approaches the first session as if it will be the only session while allowing opportunities for further work at your request. SST is a collaborative, direct and transparent approach allowing you, the client, to determine the focus and length of the work. Single-Session (One+) Therapy is an alternative to traditional psychotherapy, focusing on:

  • Health & Strengths vs Psychopathology
  • Solutions vs Problems
  • Partnership vs Patronization, Dominance and Hierarchy

Single-Session (One+) Therapy is not limited to only one session. You may make another SST appointment or access regular therapy services, if desired. You are in control.

Walking with Ann-Marie was beautiful and time passed quickly by, though we walked very slowly on that shooting day in the botanic gardens.

Ann-Marie passed away 2019.

What does Single-Session Therapy offer you?
The single-session model is based on research that shows significant progress can be made in a single, brief intervention and is an effective alternative to traditional long-term therapy for certain issues.

Single-session therapy offers a compelling approach to addressing mental health concerns. Focusing on a single issue, this method provides a swift and efficient way to make meaningful progress.

One of the primary benefits of single-session therapy is its ability to deliver help when you actually need it vs. waiting for a traditional appointment. Rather than requiring multiple appointments over an extended period, you receive the support you need in a single, impactful session. This immediacy can be particularly valuable if you're facing acute challenges or seeking a quick resolution to a specific issue.

Research shows that 50% of SST clients get the help they need out of a single session. The other 50% decide to have additional single-sessions or participate in traditional therapy. Either outcome is acceptable and you are in charge of the decision.

Single-session therapy encourages a sense of personal agency and empowerment. Clients play an active role in identifying their goals and collaborating with the therapist to develop tailored solutions. This collaborative approach fosters a stronger therapeutic alliance and increases the likelihood of successful outcomes.

Furthermore, single-session therapy can be more cost-effective than traditional, long-term therapy models, making mental health support more accessible. By capitalizing on the power of focused, solution-oriented interventions, single-session therapy offers a compelling alternative that can help individuals achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being in a timely and efficient manner.
